James “Jim” Grieger, age 86 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died peacefully Saturday, November 3, 2007 at his residence with his family by his side. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Monsignor Felix Oehrlein celebrating. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187, Wisconsin Dells. Visitation will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M. Jim was born January 21, 1921 in New Haven Township of Adams County, Wisconsin the son of John and Anna (Gottschalk) Grieger. At the age of 16 he began working for the local Coca Cola bottling plant in Wisconsin Dells. In April of 1942 he married Virginia Fisher in Dubuque, Iowa. In September of 1942 Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army, was a member of the quartermaster corp and saw action in Germany, France, Belgium and the Battle of the Bulge. He earned the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern bar, and 2 Overseas Service bars and was honorably discharged as sergeant in 1945. Jim returned home and continued his employment with Coca Cola until his retirement in 1963. Jim is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Beverly of Wisconsin Dells; nephew, Richard Grieger of Elgin, Illinois; brothers and sisters in law, Arnold and Geraldine Schank of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Elmer and Gayle Fisher of Wisconsin Dells and Tom and Corrine Fisher of Minneapolis, Minnesota and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William; cousins, Mary Peven and Louise Davis; and a brother in law, Stan Fisher. |
