Richard “Dick” White, age 73 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Monday, August 6, 2007 with his loving family by his side at the St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo, Wisconsin following a lengthy illness.

Memorial funeral services will be held Friday, August 10, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at the Dells Delton United Methodist Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Steven Miller officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187, Wisconsin Dells.

Visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home of Lake Delton, Wisconsin on Thursday, August 9, 2007 from 4 to 7 P.M. and on Friday at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 10:30 A.M.

Dick was born May 26, 1934 in Decorah, Iowa the son of Earl and Mabel (Thornton) White and graduated from Decorah High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. Four years later he was honorably discharged. He then attended Luther College in Decorah and married Shirley Thousand and they had a daughter, Debbie. Dick taught physical education and coached athletes in Minnesota, Milwaukee and Brookfield, Wisconsin where he met Susan Stratman. They were married in Decorah, Iowa in June of 1969 and lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin. In 1970 Dick decided to change careers and became an insurance salesman, relocating to LaCrescent, Minnesota and finally moving to Wisconsin Dells in 1974. Dick was a member of Rotary Club International; the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187; was active at church where he served on various boards; enjoyed refurbishing old cars; fly fishing; deer, pheasant and duck hunting; and attending sporting events and musical programs.

Dick is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Debbie Heino of Winneconne, Wisconsin, Rachel (Jacob) Griffin of Baraboo and Janice (Charles) Derhaag of Hopkins, Minnesota; brothers, Ervin White and Donald (Bev) White both of Decorah; and grandchildren, Clinton, Dustin and Kelsey Heino and Katherine Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Derrick; brother, Gerald; and sisters in law, Donna, Darlene and Mamie.
