Dorothy Jean Morgan

Dorothy Jean (Van Wormer) Morgan, age 83, of Baraboo, Wisconsin passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on July 20, 2011 at the Meadow Ridge Assisted Living Center in Baraboo.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Baraboo on Monday, July 25, 2011 with Rev. Richard Collier officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Portage.

Dorothy was born on July 18, 1928 the daughter of Merton H. Van Wormer and Jennie B. (Larson) Van Wormer. She was raised in Portage where she attended High School. Upon graduation, Dorothy moved to the Madison area where she met the love of her life Bernard “Barney” Morgan. Barney and Dorothy were married September 27, 1947. Over the years they made their home in Portage, Madison, and Monona Grove before settling in Waterloo during 1963. Dorothy worked many years at Hamlin Sensing Solutions in Lake Mills. After retirement from Hamlin, Dorothy and her husband Barney moved to the Lake Delton area. Dorothy especially enjoyed camping with friends in their travel trailer. With time on their hands and a desire to stay active Barney and Dorothy returned to work at the Land’s End Company in Reedsburg. Each fall as the holiday shopping season approached you could find Dorothy at Reedsburg Land’s End.

Dorothy’s primary focus in life was that of her 7 children and 12 grandchildren. Dorothy was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Waterloo. Dorothy was a dedicated mother. She remained deeply involved in the lives of her two special needs daughters, Connie and Susie. Dorothy loved nothing more than preparing a large holiday spread to share with friends and family.

Dorothy is survived by her six daughters; Connie Morgan and Susan Morgan both of Stoughton, WI, Michele (Joseph) Schwarz of Prairie Du Sac, WI, Melinda Morgan of Lake Delton, WI, Jan (Butch) Galston of Sun Prairie, WI and Jill Wholley of Fall River, MA; one son, Russ (Lori) Morgan of Gaston, Oregon, as well as 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Bernard, and parents, Merton and Jennie Van Wormer and her brothers, Harold, Gordon, Russell, John, and her sisters, Bernice Zamzow, Margaret Jacobs, and Ruthie Van Wormer.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Meadow Ridge Assisted Living Center in Baraboo for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers please honor Dorothy’s life through memorial gifts to the Madison Area Rehabilitation Center (http://www.marc-inc.org/donations).
