Alvena Foss Nizumani, age 99 of Baraboo, WI walked on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Sauk County Health Care Center, Reedsburg, WI. Alvena was a bear clan member.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. at Native American Church in Wisconsin Dells with Marlon WhiteEagle officiating. Visitation will be held at Native American Church on Tuesday from 10 to 12 Noon. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Alvena was born September 5, 1922 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin the daughter of John and Kate (Thunder) Miner. Alvena grew up in Mauston and attended the Neillsville & Tomah boarding schools. Alvena raised her family in LaCrosse and the Twin Cities. A dedicated lifelong member of NAC, Alvena was a woman of faith and supported the church wherever she lived. Alvena also enjoyed traveling, powwows, and going to casinos. Her quiet strength, gentle humor, and abiding love will be missed by all.

Alvena is survived by her husband Donald Foss, sister Helen Miner-Miller, son Albert Ralph III (Christine) Yellowthunder, grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Alvena was preceded in death by her parents John and Kate Miner, brother Vilas Miner, sisters Wanda and Verona Decorah, sons Dexter Yellowthunder and Matthew Foss, as well as her daughter Barbara Twobears.
