Obituary

Staff Sergeant Barry Duane Colburn, age 68, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, passed away at home on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at the Kalahari Convention Center (Africa Ballroom on East side) in Wisconsin Dells, WI from 10:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. with Military Honors provided at 10:45 A.M.

Barry was born May 24, 1956, in Portage, Wisconsin, the son of Duane and Irene (Gray) Colburn. He graduated from Portage High School in 1975. After graduating, Barry enlisted in the Marine Corps. After his term, he enlisted with the National Guard, serving in National Guard Troop E 105th Cavalry in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Barry was called back to active duty in 2003 to serve his country on foreign soil in the Iraq War, where he did a tour as a Trailblazer securing the roads by patrolling and disposing of roadside bombs. At the time of his retirement, Barry had achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant in the National Guard, with various honors and awards.

In his free time, Barry found joy in spending time with his loved ones, whether going on fishing trips with family and friends, playing cards, watching movies, or simply talking about life.

Barry had the gift of gab. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, finding a topic they both could relate to.

Barry is survived by his wife LilaMae; sons, Michael (Mike) and Jonathan; siblings, Cheri (Jonny) Roberts, Gary Fulmer, Pam Masten, and Terri Bean; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, who will cherish his memory. He is preceded in death by his parents.
