Berniece Grieves, age 95, of Baraboo, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo, WI with Pastor Tim Kuske officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 Noon. Burial will be at Newport Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.

Berniece was born February 19, 1930 in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin the daughter of Erick and Anna (Thompson) Erickson. Berniece was born a true Norwegian farm girl in Newport and would sing at the Lutheran church with her twin sister Bernita. Her twin sister and she were very close and did many things together, including visiting Cuba. In her earlier years, she dabbled in some modeling down in Florida, since she always dressed to look her best. One of the groundbreaking things she did was participate in several health research studies since she was always interested in advancements in healthcare and evolving medicine due to her experience as a CNA. On July 21, 1951, she said "I do" to the love of her life, Don Grieves. The three children they were blessed with attended Trinity Lutheran School, where Berniece was one of the founders of the hot lunch program since she was such a good chef. Years ago, she worked at many restaurants as a server, such as Del Bar, Uphoffs, and Ishnala. Ray Grieves (her father-in-law) bought the House of Embers and sold it to her husband, Don Grieves, and Wally and Barbara Obois. Then, they co-owned the House of Embers with the Obois couple in the late 1950s. Berniece and Don loved to travel and would go to Arizona, Hawaii, and Nevada to see their daughter and family. They retired early and would spend winters at their home in Winter Haven, Florida. She loved to tell stories and reminisce with her family since her mind was always sharp.  She was a very family-oriented woman who enjoyed all who visited her. Even at 95, she continued to enjoy her hobbies of playing cards/bingo, painting, and singing, including singing to her family and friends on their birthdays/anniversaries. Her Lutheran faith was very important to her, even when the angels took her home.

Berniece is survived by her children Erick (Darlene) Wis. Dells, Grant (Chris) Reedsburg, Kari Grieves Henderson, NV; grandchildren, Erick Jr. (Elizabeth) Coupeville, WA, Katie (Harry) Rooney Reedsburg, Rebecca (Bryan) Szydlowski Rock Springs, Selene Grieves San Diego, CA, Angelene Grieves Wis. Dells; great-grandchildren, Julie Bucio, Kaitlyn (Aaron Nickason) Grieves, Bree Grieves, Viktoria Grieves, Jonathan Szydlowski; and great-great-grandchild Memphis Nickason. Also survived by two sisters-in-law, Carol Erickson and Charlotte Trumble along with many nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don; siblings, Kenneth, Arnold and Irvin Erickson, Lucille Dorow and Bernita Dominick and by two infant children.
