Carlyle Greendeer, XaatapHonųųwąk "Runs Toward the Forest", age 43 of Reedsburg, Wisconsin walked on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Conway-Picha Funeral Home in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin with Richard "Duffy" Mann officiating. Burial will be at the Indian Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Conway Picha Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon.

Carlyle was born October 8, 1982 in Baraboo, Wisconsin the son of Frederick Greendeer and Roberta Funmaker. Carlyle was an all around athlete growing up. From little league baseball to Reedsburg Basketball Boys Club in his younger years. In high school Carlyle was a standout All-Conference Offensive Tackle his senior year. He played basketball all four years, threw discus and shot put for track 3 years. He was a multiple letter winner in 3 sports for the Reedsburg Beavers. He went on to play college basketball for a season UW-Baraboo. He and his brothers came up with a basketball team Oak Park. They would travel around to participate in various native and open tournaments in their adult years. Carlyle graduated with his associate degree from MATC in Madison.

He found his calling when he was hired as a Language Apprentice for the Language Division for the HooCak Nation. He essentially became a sponge soaking all that he could. In time, his knowledge of the language grew,  and he became a Language teacher. Later transferring into various roles throughout the Language Division, and also, Heritage and Preservation. Carlyle in all this time was a loving Jaaji (father), and husband to his kids and Wife. A dependable brother, son, and friend. His wittiness, personality, humor, and smile was could light up a room. He was very reserved when he had to be. His kindness, and loving nature was one of his many good traits. He loved his traditional ways, and always was available to help. He was a devoted Husband, Jaaji (Father), Brother, Son, Teega (Uncle), Friend, and Cooka (grandfather). He will be dearly missed by many, but forgotten by none. We love you Bugzee! Always and forever!

Carlyle is survived by his sons, Jalen Roman, Lincoln Montelongo and Ryan Greendeer; daughter, Randi Greendeer; mother, Roberta Funmaker; brothers, Cameron Stiles Greendeer, Cody Greendeer, Fredrick Greendeer and Nathan Miller; and a sister, Diane Greendeer Mallory. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Greendeer and a sister, Carly Autumn Greendeer.
