Obituary

Carol (Smith) Berg, age 80, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, passed away on November 26, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Trapper's Turn Golf Club. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. with fellowship to follow.

Carol was born on July 15, 1945, in Chicago, IL and moved to Wisconsin when she was 3. She grew up just North of the Dells with her parents, Ray and Dolores Smith along with her sister Sandy and a house full of animals. Dogs, cats, a pig, squirrel, racoon, several monkeys and horses. She spent those years riding horses with her sister and life-long friends, Tina Rice and Diane Scott. As she grew up, she became an accomplished rider and was a barrel racer for several years. She bartended for her father at Smitty's Bar where she met Richard (Dick) Berg. They married on April 22, 1978. She was a florist for many years and worked for Land's End before retiring.

Dick and Carol traveled the entire country, repeating many of their favorite places, along with multiple vacations to all parts of Canada and Mexico. Her love for flowers continued after retirement. One of her favorite days, was going to 3 Amish Nurseries and filling the trucks with flowers that she would carefully mix, match and plant over the next 3 weeks. She was much better at planting than she was weeding. We can't ask Carol right now, but according to Dick, they were soulmates who read each other mind on a regular basis with love and compassion for over 47 years. Thank God for letting us find one another. Carol enjoyed weekly lunches with Sandy, Tina and Diane and her close friend, Pat Thomas. She loved re-decorating the house to follow the seasons. Carol was known as a great maker of homemade wine, which she happily gave away to lucky family and friends for many years. She was also complimented for her skills in the kitchen and many wonderful holiday meals.

Carol is survived by her husband, Richard Berg; sister, Sandy Murphy; niece, Lisa Pelletier and grand-niece and nephews, Kiersten, Brennan and Preston Pellerier. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Dolores and a nephew, Robbie.

Special Thanks to the ICU Nurses at Meriter Hospital.
