It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Daniel Griep, age 69, who left this world on July 19, 2026, after a brave and inspiring battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Springbrook Resort in Lake Delton, WI.

Dan was born on August 18, 1956, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Donald and Grace Griep (Dvorak), who preceded him in death along with his sister Marlene Skubal (Griep) and his in-laws William and Rita Starich.

Dan was a devoted husband to Cheryl Griep (Slater), with whom he shared 33 wonderful years after marrying on March 21, 1993. Together, they built a family defined by love, laughter, and resilience. He leaves behind a legacy of enduring love through his children: Andrew (Heather) Slater, Donald (Monique) Griep, Geoffrey (Kelly) Slater, Robert (Alison) Griep, Lisa (Aaron) Swaner, and Kristen Slater. His spirit and values continue to live on in his cherished grandchildren: Haley Slater, Mady Slater, Grayson Slater, Daniel Griep, Morgan Griep, Evan Slater, Andrew Slater, Lydia Slater, Annabelle Swaner, Maddie Griep, and Dawson Griep.

Dan's career was a testament to his dedication and passion for his craft. Beginning in 1974, he embarked on an apprenticeship as a pattern maker, starting at Badger Pattern and culminating at Portage Casting and Mold. His talent and innovation were instrumental in several mold applications, notably contributing to the Plasma Development Research for UW Madison's Dynamo Project and the molds for the GT40 engine block. His work was celebrated in the State Journal, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and various manufacturing publications, reflecting the impact of his contributions.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dan found joy in woodworking and shared this passion with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories and cherished projects. His love for his family was boundless, and he found immense pride and joy in supporting and witnessing their growth and accomplishments.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to special friends Jim McCauley and Scott Allen, whose support over the past three years was invaluable. Additionally, they wish to express sincere thanks to Dr. Stella, Dr. Zurko, and the exceptional oncology nursing staff for their compassionate care during Dan's cancer journey, as well as the dedicated team at St. Clare Hospital and Hospice services.

Dan's courage and generosity extended beyond his personal battle, as he offered his medical testing results to UW Carbone and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester to advance cancer research, hoping to aid in finding cures for others.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Dan's spirit of giving and his hope for a brighter future for others.

Dan's memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. His life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and resilience, and he will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
