Obituary

David Bernard Lawton, known affectionately as Dave, passed away on April 8, 2024.

He was laid to rest in a private service on April 13, 2024, beside his beloved late wife Phyllis Mary Lawton, at Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Dave was born on November 23, 1960, in Boscobel, WI to Bernard and Esther Lawton. Throughout his life, Dave was known for his hard work and compassion. He instilled these values in his sons, Chris and Joey, teaching them to be entrepreneurs and excel in their professional careers. He had a passion for cooking, having served as the General Manager of Denny's in Wisconsin Dells, WI, and gaining recognition as the chef of the Cobblestone in Marshall, WI. A skilled tradesman, Dave spent countless hours with his sons building and renovating his family home in Wisconsin Dells, WI. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and camping with his family, along with listening to classic rock on his radio. Dave will be remembered fondly for being a simple man with an incredible heart and work ethic.

Dave is survived by his sons Chris Lawton, who is married to Stephanie Lawton (Ward), and Joey Lawton, who is married to Jamon Deaver. He is also survived by his siblings Nancy Cook, married to Orvie Cook, Danny Lawton, who was married to the late Nicki Lawton, and Dixie Schwinn. Additionally, he is survived by his current wife Michelle Lawton (Raether) and her family, and his former wife Kasia Spencer (Banas). David leaves behind a legacy of family, including three grandchildren (Camron, Chloe, and Cora), six nieces and nephews (Amanda, Amy, Jody, Jamie, Nicole, and Shane), four great nieces and nephews, three great great nieces and nephews, his goddaughter Taylor Giese, and several other relatives and friends, including his best friend, Gus.

Dave was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Mary Lawton, his parents Bernard and Esther Lawton, his uncle Robert Lawton, as well as several siblings and other family members.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Agrace Hospice and Rosebrooke Senior Living who cared for David at his end of life. Picha Funeral Home provided funeral arrangements and Derek Rosenstiel, M.Div with Agrace officiated the service.
