Duane
Richter
Feb 18, 1937 — Nov 9, 2025
Mauston
Duane Harry Richter, 88, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully with family by his side November 9, 2025, after a long courageous battle with dementia. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Duane's life was marked by love, laughter, and a spirit that would light up the room.
Born on February 18, 1937, in Bonduel, Wisconsin, Duane grew up surrounded by family and developed the strong work ethic and warm nature that would define his life. After many years of dedicated service as an inspector at P&H Harnishfeger, Duane retired with pride in his work and the deep friendships he made along the way.
Husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Duane found his greatest joy at home and by Judy's side. Family was at the heart of everything Duane did. He shared an extraordinary 58 years with his beloved wife, Judy, 54 of them as husband and wife. Together they built a loving life, blending and creating their beautiful family of three daughters and five sons always filled with humor, warmth, and mutual devotion. Each welcomed the other's past with unwavering love, generosity, and a bond that defined their life. Known for his quick wit and playful spirit, Duane was a born prankster who could make anyone laugh. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, and he never met a stranger—everyone was a friend. Whether sharing a drink and a story, tending a bonfire in the yard, or decorating his 10 acres for a Halloween hayride, Duane found joy in life's simple pleasures. He will always be remembered for his humor, mischief, and endless love. A passionate outdoorsman, he loved hunting, and Judy often hunted alongside him. Duane enjoyed working around the yard, and roaming backroads with Judy in search of new places to explore. He cherished family gatherings and could often be found with a beer in hand, surrounded by love and laughter.
Duane is survived by his wife, Judy; his brother, Gary (Pat); daughters, Shelly, Tina (Dave), and Tracy; sons, Shawn (Colleen) and Brad. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Courtney, Shea, Hailey, Billee, Jesse, Cody and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Bentley, Jace, Ryker, Avianna, River, Alaska, Evangeline and Jeremy Jr. Duane is preceded in death by his father, Harry; his mother, Irene; sisters, Joyce, Adame and Beverly; sons, Scotty, Randy and Troy.
A Celebration of Duane's life will be held on December 6, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Edge O Dells Bar and Restaurant (N555 Hwy 12 and WI-16, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965).
