Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. Frederick Eugene Hartley was called to his heavenly home on November 3, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family.

Fred was born in Beloit, WI, on March 4, 1943, to Everett and Marie (Heeler) Hartley. He grew up in Tomah, WI, on a farm outside of town where he learned his loyalty and strong work ethic. He attended a one room schoolhouse, and that was where he first noticed a beautiful young lady, Alyce Kanable. After many years of pursuing Alyce, she agreed to marry him on May 12, 1962. Shortly thereafter, they were blessed with three loving children: Lisa, Michelle, and Brian. Fred worked various jobs throughout his life to support his family. He moved them to Wisconsin Dells in 1971 and began work with the Gardner Baking Company. Fred built a well-established route, and he took immense pride in servicing the businesses in this area. After suffering a back injury that would no longer allow him to keep up with the vigorous demands of his sales and delivery route for Gardners, Fred was offered a position as the Fleet Supervisor for Holiday Wholesale. Fred was instrumental in developing the Wisconsin Dells Travel Marts and especially Fred's Mobil. His efforts in the success of these businesses made an immense impact on the Wisconsin Dells community. After becoming empty-nesters, Fred and Alyce moved to their "Hunting Shack," and he continued to dabble in farming. From raising cows and crops to establishing a beautiful area for his family and friends to hunt and play, Fred was never far from the outdoors he loved. Hunting season was by far Fred's favorite time of year. He looked forward to gathering with fellow hunters and sharing stories of their success. He was always available to listen to a story and shared many of his own. His absence from this year's deer hunting season will be greatly felt. No hunts or stories about them will be the same without his booming voice and boisterous laugh.

Relationships and experiences were Fred's ultimate joy. His family was the most important part of his life. He was incredibly proud of his three children and six grandchildren, bragging about them to anyone who would listen. From hog hunts in Iowa, to fly-in fishing trips to Alaska, to endless hours cheering from the bleachers, Fred was never far from any activity involving his grandkids. Raising his family was his greatest accomplishment; he lef t an unmatched legacy.

Fred is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alyce; two daughters, Lisa (Jim) Pfeifer of Wis. Dells, Michelle Coughlin, of Wis. Dells; one son, Brian (Lisa) Hartley, of Wis. Dells; and 6 grandchildren: Carly (Eli) Mattson, Jamie (Nathan Sankey) Pfeifer, Kathleen Coughlin, Kevin Coughlin, Brooke Hartley, and Brianna Hartley. Along with countless other friends, family, fellow hunters, and community members.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Bethany Lutheran Church (620 Broadway, Wisconsin Dells) at 3:00 PM with visitation from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
