George Coakley Field, age 80, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at UW Hospital.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells, WI, on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #187 of Wisconsin Dells. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until time of Mass at 11:00 A.M.

George was born to Robert and Lois Field on October 30, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He moved to Wisconsin Dells shortly thereafter. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He served his country in Vietnam with the 826 Ordinance and belonged to the American Legion Post #187 serving as Commander in 1986. He was a member of the Wisconsin Dells Rotary Club.

George met his wife, Suzanne, in high school then dated during their college years. He introduced her to this new sport, called skiing. Alpine that is. They traveled with their three boys, George II, Jason and Michael to ski resorts every year with cousins and friends. It was a packed, mayhem, fun-filled, chaos week each year, never to forget, with George trying to tone it down. He taught everyone how to ski.

George with his wife, Suzanne, owned several businesses in Wisconsin Dells including Dells Army Ducks, WildThing Jet Boats, and BigFoot Zipline. They raised their family and worked together always reinvesting in improvements, until now, when the boys have taken control with Jason at the helm.

George was a Hockey Coach along with Bill Wimmer as that was the boys sport of choice. He played golf weekly with his Lake Delton and Dells friends. He was a lifetime Member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church receiving First Communion, Confirmation and Marriage Rites to Suzanne there.

George had an iron clad memory knowing all of the Wisconsin Dells history like no other. He never forgot a name no matter how many years passed. He lived by a straight and narrow, honest creed of life. He never veered from what was right. He loved his family, always caring for their needs, and walked tall over their accomplishments. He was his mother-in-law Ida’s favorite…

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Flath); children George II, Jason (Betsy), Michael (Nicole), grandchildren Jack Melvin and Natalie; brother Robert John (Kari), Tom (Bridgette), sisters; Kathleen, Jane (Bill), Colleen (Dick), Pat (Mike), sister-in-law Pam and Aunt Dorothy; nephews, Sean, Collin, Garrin, John Pat, Ryan, Field, Greg, and Jeff. Further survived by nieces; Katie, Rachel, Meghan, Elizabeth, Molly, Debra, Susan, Shelli, and Tammy. Also, Kim and Lisa Field. He was preceded in death by his parents, baby brother Robert, nephew, David Hawes, nieces Heather Field and Bonnie Hawes, brother Tim, brothers-in-law Dick Slayton, Bob Gavinski, Bill Sommers, Alan Hawes; sisters-in-law Diana, Barbara and Sally.

After burial luncheon will follow at Trappers Turn Golf Club.
