Gerald Cleveland, Sr., Nozu-hominak meaning Bear Sitting in Tree Branches, age 75 of Mauston, Wisconsin, walked on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Geralds Residence, N5620 15 th Avenue, Mauston with Joseph WhiteEagle officiating. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells. Visitation will be held at N5620 15th Avenue on Saturday, May 15, 2021 beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Gerald was born June 6, 1945 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin the son of Silas and Jacqueline (Greencrow) Cleveland. Gerald was very proud of his Native American heritage and followed the ways of the Native American Church. He also enjoyed sharing and promoting the respect of his culture. Gerald earned the title of World Champion Northern Traditional Dancer and had performed locally at the Tommy Bartlett Show, Fort Dells and Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial. He was also the master of ceremonies at numerous pow wows around the country for all age groups and was a respected mentor to many.
Gerald loved his family dearly. He is survived by a son, Gabriel; daughters, Anjanette and Crystal; sisters, Sonja, Juanita and Bonnie; 32 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Iris; sons, Gerald, Jr., Garrick, Sr., and Silas; brothers, Matthew, Gary, Adlai, Ricardo and Rodney; and sisters, Ginger, Crystal, Diane, Cheryl, Evelyn and Yvonne.
