Gladys M. (Haupt) Orton "gladieo", age 88 of Baraboo, WI, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 6, 2026 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's.
Gladys was born April 21, 1937 in Perryville, Missouri the daughter of Lawrence and Pernecia (Mayfield) Haupt. She grew up in Chaffee, MO and attended school there, graduating from Chaffee High School in 1955. Upon moving to Baraboo, WI in 1965, she started employment with Sauk County Human Services in March 1966 and retiring from there in June 2000. On March 23, 1969, she married Richard L. Orton at the Methodist Parsonage in Merrimac, WI, and they enjoyed almost 57 years together (the second time around for each).
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Baraboo, where she served as a financial secretary for a long time.
Gladys is survived by her husband Richard, their children Cynthia (Ralph) Walsh of Sallisaw, OK, Russell (Julie) Leabo of Greshman, OR and their sons, Andrew (Emily) of Seattle, WA, Weston of Gresham, OR and Casey (Taylor) of Westlinn, OR & Pamela (Gregory) Feuling of Madison, WI and their children, Alexander (Tracey) of Janesville, WI, Jenna (TJ) Butler of Stoughton, WI. She is also survived by granddaughter Niki (Derek) Schumacher of Sublimity, OR; 10 great-grandchildren and brother-in-law Richard Darrow of Verden, OK; along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her parents, son Rick, her brother Lloyd Haupt, sisters-in-law, Betty Haupt, Beverly Kent, Karen Darrow and brother-in-law John Orton.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, WI, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. A private family service will be held. Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo, WI.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Alzheimer's Association or Agrace Hospice.
The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice for their caring support through Gladys' journey.
