Helen was born on December 25, 1924, in Kilbourn, WI, the only child of Engle Litinius and Ernestena Marie (Nemitz) Jones. She grew up in Kilbourn, now known as Wisconsin Dells and loved cooking and quilting with her mother and riding the river boats with her father. She graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School in 1942 and worked in a local doctor's office. Helen married Samuel Arnold Guildner at the Newport Evangelical Lutheran Church in April 1944 and moved to a farm east of Wisconsin Dells in Newport Township. Helen raised 6 children and spent her spare time reading, gardening, canning, baking, quilting and treasure hunting. She always found time to help with projects and events at school and was very active in the church and its Quilters Group. Helen enjoyed visiting relatives and spent countless hours on family genealogy. Helen volunteered at the Bowman House and donated numerous items to local historical societies. She loved traveling the U.S., especially Florida, California, Alaska and Minnesota, collecting seashells and rocks along the way. Helen loved quiet walks in the woods, discovering arrowheads in the fields and unearthing untold treasures with her "goodie finder". Helen enjoyed quilting, rosemaling, photography, crafting and writing. She won numerous ribbons at the Columbia County Fair for her talents.
Helen is survived by four daughters, Colleen (Dennis) Bindley of Middleton, WI; Barbara (Don) Labrenz of Wisconsin Dells, WI; Dorothy (Glenn) Harvey of McFarland, WI and Terry (Bill) Rowe of Madison, WI; two sons, Steven (Heather) Guildner of Fairbanks, Alaska and Grant (Carla) Guildner of Wisconsin Dells; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel A. Guildner and granddaughter, Jennifer L. (Labrenz) Egnaty.
In lieu of flowers, please make charitable donations in Helen's name to a Historical Society or Trinity Lutheran Church, a Humane Society or charity of your choice.
