It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Hildegard Zuberbuehler, who died peacefully on May 30th, 2025, at the age of 89. Hilda's life was a testament to resilience, grace, and unwavering love, a journey that began amidst the tumult of wartime Germany and blossomed into a beautiful American dream.

Born in Munich, Germany in 1936, Hilda endured the hardships of World War II, a period that forged her indomitable spirit. Despite the challenges, she harbored dreams of becoming a ballet dancer, a testament to her inherent grace and passion for movement. While the war curtailed her dance aspirations, her striking beauty and poised demeanor led her to a successful career as an Army wife and mother.

Her life took a pivotal turn when she met and fell deeply in love with a compassionate American soldier, Ernest Zuberbuehler, Jr., who was stationed in Germany. Their love story, a beacon of hope in a shattered world, led her to immigrate to the United States, where she embraced her new home with open arms and an adventurous spirit.

In America, Hilda built a vibrant and loving family with Ernie. She was a devoted mother to their four children, a cherished grandmother to her many grandchildren, and a great-grandmother, who delighted in seeing photos of the newest generations.

Hildegard will be remembered for her elegant presence, her quiet strength, and her warm heart. She navigated life's challenges with courage and grace, always prioritizing her family and demonstrating an unwavering commitment to those she loved. Her legacy of resilience, love, and quiet determination will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Hilda is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ernest, her children Monica and Ernest Lee, grandchildren Zeth and Jennifer, and great grandson, Christopher. She is survived by her two children, Johnny and Tony, her many cherished grandchildren, and numerous adored great- grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI to celebrate Hildegard and Ernest's remarkable life. Both Hilda and Ernie will be inurned in a columbarium following military honors in celebration and respect for their dedicated lives serving our country together.
