James Allen Fischer, age 77, of Mauston, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, WI, surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023, starting at 12 P.M. at Mauston American Legion Post 81 and Auxiliary Unit 81 in Mauston. Military Honors will begin at 12:30 P.M.

Jim was born on August 5, 1946, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of George and Audrey (Koecke) Fischer. He was a proud Marine Corp veteran who served two tours in the Vietnam Conflict (1966-1967; 1968-1969). The family felt the words of his granddaughter Kierynn described him perfectly:

"My grandpa Jim. He left us today and something he said the other day stands out heavily to me. He was talking about how he wished he did more that HE wanted to do. How he thought life was backwards. You work, work, work and plan to do everything you want once you retire. Then you're too old, things don't work the way they used to, or you're too tired. It's not fair. I always saw my grandpa as a very admirable person. He did 2 tours in Vietnam, an extremely proud Marine. He loved classic cars, collected, and did many car shows. He admired indigenous culture and collected many beautiful things and loved taking us to rendezvous as kids. He was very knowledgeable and respectful of it all. He loved antiquing, rummage sales, and flea markets. He was very talented in woodworking and loved making us all new things. He gave/bought me some of my favorite records. Specifically, the Bob Dylan Greatest Hits. I remember him telling me, "You can't collect records and not own a Bob Dylan album, so I'm going to get you this!" Can't forget his love for the Packers, a true Wisconsinite. He has pages, tapes, and letters on all of our family history and he loved telling us all the stories and teaching us about it all. He loved his family; he went through a lot to fight for his kids and did a great job raising them and he really, really loved his dog Cree. I am thankful I had a grandpa like you. I will miss you."

Jim is survived by his daughter, Jodie Beloungy; sons, Guy Fischer, Gary (Michelle) Macklin, and Doug Macklin; sister, Joanne (Gary) Spease; granddaughters, Kierynn Beloungy, Shayna Beloungy, Lanna Beloungy, Emily Falkowski, and Ginny Macklin; grandsons, Zach (Amber) Beloungy, James Macklin, Doug Macklin II, and Chadwick Macklin; great grandsons, Cyrus Niebuhr and Noah Macklin-Longoria; great granddaughters, Arya Niebuhr, Gabriella Zautke and Ariana Macklin-Longoria; his paison Steve Adamczyk, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Bonny (Jeske) Fischer.
