John Schulz, age 90, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 15, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells, WI with Reverend Matt Gehrke officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Noon. John and Barbara will be buried together at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells. Military Honors will be held at the cemetery and provided by the Wisc. Dells American Legion Post #187. John was a proud member of the Legion for 36 years.
John was born December 8, 1934 in Ripon, Wisconsin. The 2nd son of William F. Schulz and Bethel (Hyde) Schulz. John married his most loving wife, Barbara on October 15, 1970. They have 6 children. John attended schools in Ripon and in February 1952, John left his senior year of high school at age 17 and joined the US Army. John was a veteran of the Korean war serving as a medic with "I" company, 27th infantry regiment, from November 1952 to July 1953. John was proud that he was promoted to Staff Sergeant in May 1953, just five months after his 18th birthday. Returning from Korea, John worked at the base hospital at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. In January 1954 John was transferred to the medical battalion of the 4th Division in Frankfurt Germany, he finished his enlistment there and was discharged in 1955. In 1956, John began a 33-year career as a Law Enforcement Officer for the State of Wisconsin. He was a State Trooper from 1956-1963; an Investigator for the Department of Taxation from 1963-1967 and a Special Agent with the State Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) from 1967-1989. After retiring from law-enforcement, he worked for 17 years for Holiday Wholesale in Wisconsin Dells as a service tech – a job he truly enjoyed.
John is survived by his children, Robin (Brian) Lawson, Hoopeston, IL, Steven (Colleen) Schulz, Oconomowoc, WI, Angie (Don Collins) Schulz, Phoenix, AZ, William Schulz, Lake Delton, WI, Sherry Lynn (Schulz) Gugel, Newport, WA, Kaye Anne (Kurtis) Barker, Seattle, WA. He is further survived by 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and many good friends. John is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Barbara and brother, Gerald Schulz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Wisconsin Dells Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9387; Wisconsin Dells; American Legion Post #187 or Trinity Lutheran Church of Wisconsin Dells.
