John N. Weigel, age 81, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 P.M. at the cabin for family and friends. Please call or message a family member for directions.

John was born August 30, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Henrietta Schaller Wich. He was then adopted by Felix and Mary (Bargander) Weigel. He grew up on the family farm in the township of McMillan, which had been settled in about 1876 by the Weigel family. He went to school at St. John’s and then Marshfield Public Schools. Several years later, he enlisted in the army and was deployed to Vietnam where he was in the heavy machinery engineer corps helping to build the airstrip in Phan Rang.

On February 22, 1969, he married the love of his life, Ann Weisenberger. They moved to the house on McMillan St. two years later, where the two of them spent 47 years together turning the old farmstead into a property that was more like a park. Some of their projects included digging a pond so their kids could swim or sled and ice skate, building a racetrack where they could drive the homemade go-karts, and welding a giant swingset that even as adults, the twins enjoyed swinging on. In later years, he loved feeding the birds, driving his tractors, and spending time at the cabin.

He retired from welding at Felker Brothers in Marshfield where he spent a majority of his work life. Also, John was on the McMillan Volunteer Fire Department as well as the McMillan town board for several years.

He is survived by his five children, Heidi Swenson (Jeremy Watson), Scott (Sherry) Weigel, Chris (Sharon) Weigel, Curt (Jannelle) Weigel, and Cory Weigel as well as grandchildren Aaron (Ally Ecklund) and Soren Swenson, Felicity Guerra and Kaden Flick, Sophie and Jaxson Weigel, and Alex Weigel. He is further survived by brother Charles Weigel, sister Joyce Luchterhand, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Sharon Weisenberger as well as nieces Lisa, Lori, Tammy, and Terry, and nephews Jeff and Matthew.

Aside from his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his in-laws Lee and June Weisenberger, brother-in-law Malcolm Rudin, brother-in-law Tom Luchterhand, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Elmer and Nancy Martens, and niece Rebecca Weisenberger.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of St. Croix Hospice in Baraboo, especially Dad’s nurse, Chrissy and nurse’s aide, McKayla. They provided unwavering support!
