Joseph Janus, age 73, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024, at his residence.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father Paul Ugo Arinze celebrating. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow Mass at Calvary Cemetery.

Joseph was born on October 19, 1950, in Poland, the son of Thaddeusz and Alojza (Bisek) Janus. He married Elizabeth Dybowski in October of 1972, following a 5-year courtship through the mail between Poland and the United States. They initially settled in Chicago, Illinois, before moving to Wisconsin Dells, where they owned and operated the Spring Hill Motel, Holiday Motel, and Cleopatra's Spa.

Joseph worked as an electrical engineer with Schwinn in Chicago, contributing to their innovative bicycle designs during the height of the company's success. He was a dedicated professional who brought passion and precision to his work. Joseph and his brother Stanley started Parts King Automotive Supply together and had plans to franchise. After Stanley's untimely death, Joseph started CityWide Automotive Supply on Belmont in Chicago which he operated for 30 years.

In addition to his professional life, the Janus family was notably connected to the tragic events surrounding the infamous 1982 Tylenol murders. Joseph's brother Stanley, Adam and Sister-in-law became a victim of the poisonings that rocked the nation, forever changing their family's history. The incident deeply affected the Janus family, leaving a lasting legacy of grief and resilience.

In 1988, Jospeh and Elizabeth moved their children to Wisconsin Dells Wisconsin and opened 2 motels called Springhill and Holiday.  These were his final businesses before his passing.

Joseph is survived by a son, Peter (Erin) Janus, a daughter, Monica Janus, and his granddaughters Mikal, Isabel, and Milana and sister Sophia (Marian) Czyz. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth, brothers Stanley, Adam and baby brother Stasiu, and his sister Maria.
