Obituary

Larry W. Coon, age 72, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Agrace Hospice House in Fitchburg, Wisconsin surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service for Larry will be held Monday, May 20, 2024, at 6:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church of Wisconsin Dells with Rev. Matt Gehrke presiding. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 6:30 PM. Larry will be laid to rest at Davis Corners Cemetery at a later date.

Larry was born on May 30, 1951. The son of Bill and Audrey (Lake) Coon. He and his brothers and sister attended school in Davis Corners and eventually moved to Wisconsin Dells where he enjoyed being a wrestler and graduated as a Dells Alumnus. He began work as a carpenter for his Uncle Harold Coon with Coon Brothers Construction. Later he joined the union and continued his work in construction throughout the Madison area.

Larry enjoyed staying active, hating to ever sit for too long. If he wasn't working on projects around his home, he would be out with friends on a golf course or in a bowling alley. He worked hard and achieved many trophies in both. He enjoyed traveling to many wrestling matches for Wisconsin Dells High School with friends as well. Larry was proud of his time hunting. He went on many trips over the years and hunted various types of animals such as white tail, elk, pheasant, and mule deer. He said that the comradery of friends and family was always his favorite part of all the activities he did.

He also spent a lot of time with family. Traveling to visit them as often as he could and attending large family reunions. He especially loved to watch baseball and football with his brothers and dad as well as talking with his mom and his sister. Every summer he especially looked forward to enjoying his sister Gail's rhubarb pie.

Larry also enjoyed spending time with his daughter and her family. Teaching his daughter to be his "favorite golf partner" and spending time with her any chance he could. He enjoyed being a Papa to both his grandson and the family pet, Theo. From the moment he walked in the door the two would be glued to his arms.

Larry served on the board of trustees for the church. He often kept busy helping around the school and the church anytime they would ask. He was often found shoveling the sidewalks alongside Pastor Gehrke. In the summertime he would also keep up maintenance on the cemetery in Davis Corners by mowing and weeding.

Larry is survived by his daughter; Ashley (Brenden) Westerfeldt, grandson Dallan Westerfeldt, sister Gail (Don) Evans, and sister-in-law Cherie Coon. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Alan and Rick Coon.
