Obituary

Marian Ingrid Christopherson passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena, Wisconsin.

At Marian's request, a simple graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at the Newport Lutheran Church Cemetery in the township of Newport with Pastor Joseph Doegen of Bethany Lutheran Church presiding.

Marian Ingrid Sampson Christopherson was born on April 4, 1929, at home on a farm in Meadowbrook Township, Exeland, Wisconsin to Axel and Selma (Carlson) Sampson. She graduated from Ladysmith High School and Superior State College (now known as UW Superior). She met the love of her life Otto, while doing graduate work at UW-Madison. She taught at Crandon and Wausau high schools and was a librarian at Medford High School and DC Everest High School in Schofield, Wisconsin. Marian married Otto on September 17, 1955, and they had four children.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and over the years she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Women of the Church and the "Cover Girl's" charity quilters. She was a member of the Tuesday Club and the Newport Homemakers. She served on the Columbia County Library Board, the Continuing Education Board at University of Wisconsin, Baraboo Campus, and the Governor's panel on Economic Growth. She helped organize and served on the Citizens' Utility Board. She was the first female member of the Board of Directors of the Adams-Columbia REA.  Marian was also awarded the state Coop Builders' award together with her husband Otto.

Marian loved to travel; she traveled throughout the United States and visited her daughter in Italy several times. She also enjoyed her trip to Sweden to visit her ancestral home. Marian was a voracious reader. She loved knitting and was addicted to doing crossword puzzles. She was very proud of her family farm and worked side by side with her husband and son.

She is survived by her children; Ingrid (Eric) Beyer, Olaf Christopherson, Amy (Tim) Perry, and Anne (Giancarlo) Le Piane, 3 grandchildren; Rachel Perry, and Giorgia and Antonio Le Piane, her sister-in-laws Joan Schmidt and Anita (Don) Nelson and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Otto, brothers Carl, Art, Laurence, and Paul, sisters Ruth Campbell and Margaret Palmer and brother-in-law Fred Schmidt.

The family would like to thank the very kind, caring and competent staff at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena for Marian's end-of-life care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells in Marian's honor.
