Marlys Raguel
Whiteagle
Jul 27, 1953 — May 26, 2026
Madison
Marlys Whiteagle, age 72 of Madison, WI, walked on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Devotions will be held at Teejop Hochira, the Ho-Chunk Madison Community Building (4724 Tradewinds Parkway, Madison, WI 53718), on Thursday, May 28th, starting at 5:00 pm for the meal and at 7:00 pm for the service. The commitment service is at 11:00 am on Friday, May 29th, at the Madison Community Building, followed by the burial at 1:00 pm at Roselawn Memorial Garden, (401 Femrite Drive, Monona, WI).
Marlys was born on July 27, 1953, in Somerville, New Jersey, the daughter of Calvin and Georgina (Greengrass) Whiteagle. Marlys's first love and passion was her family, and she poured all of her love into daughter Miriam, grandsons Manny, Louie, and Joey, and great-granddaughter Dailana. Her second passion was working for her people in the Ho-Chunk Nation as a whole, through her involvement in boards and committees, as a Ho-Chunk legislator, and more specifically, as an advocate, mentor, friend, and ally. Marlys was proud of her career as a Steamfitter and was an avid inventor, holding many patents and pursuing creative ventures in her quest to do everything better. Marlys loved to travel, whether that be trips to Florida or the Grand Canyon, or planned trips to pan for gold in northern Wisconsin or go to northern Finland to meet the Sami people. She encouraged those around her to always follow their dreams and to bet on themselves. Mostly, she loved life.
She is survived by her wife, Frances Wiedenhoeft; her daughter, Miriam Eden Whiteagle (Carlos Torres); grandsons Manners Rain Whiteagle (Desirae Whiteagle), Louis Sky Torres, and Joel Manape Torres; great-granddaughter Dailana Whiteagle; and sisters Muriel Whiteagle Lee and Melody Whiteagle Fintak. She is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin Whiteagle and Georgina (Greengrass) Whiteagle, and by siblings Marguerite Whiteagle, Timothy Whiteagle, Marlissa Wiederholt, Mara Whitealge-Roland, Talbot Whiteagle, and Troy Whiteagle.
