Mary was born July 10, 1930, in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Krivitz) Cauley. Mary grew up in her life-long home on highway 12-16 where she came to live with her aunt and uncle, following her mother's death when she was 15 months old. Mary attended Sheep Pasture Bluff School, graduated from Mauston High School, and earned her teaching degree from U.W. Stevens Point, beginning a long career as an educator. She taught three years in a country school, followed by 43 years as a third-grade teacher in the New Lisbon school system.  She was well-loved by her co-workers and generations of students, many of whom kept in contact with her to this day. She was active in her community and her Catholic faith, playing piano and organ at St. Mary's Catholic Church, and volunteered at the nursing home and food pantry.  She always welcomed visitors into her home, and no one left without a meal or some sweet treat.  Mary loved animals, especially cats and dogs, flowers and feeding the wild birds. Family and friendships were extremely important to Mary. She kept in touch with a large network of relatives, friends and neighbors and was a wealth of information on how we were all related.

Mary is survived by her sisters, June Valentino, and Margaret (Michael) Cannestra. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Kenneth Cauley, Joseph Cauley and Thomas Cavanaugh, and beloved uncle and aunt, John and Mary (Cauley) Schwab.

The family wishes to thank the care team at Riverwood Senior Living and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care for Mary in recent months, and her P.A. Anne Fenwick for her care and friendship over many years.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary's Parish in Lyndon Station, or St. Croix Hospice are appreciated.
