Mary E. Van Wie, age 71, of Springfield, VA passed away into the hands of God on December 25, 2025 surrounded by people who loved her.
She was born on June 16,1954 to Ralph Jack and Dorothy Frances Van Wie of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. In 1975, she moved to Milwaukee where she worked for the Milwaukee County Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Trauma and Orthopedics for 18 years. In 1993, she headed East to Springfield, VA, worked in home health care and completed her B.S. Nursing Degree at George Mason University. In 2000, Mary became the Administrator and Director of Nursing for Culpepper Garden Assisted Living, the first and only HUD facility in the nation to provide affordable housing and services to low-income senior residents. Mary had a special gift for assisting and caring for elderly people. She deeply loved animals, her friends, family and faith.
Mary was the youngest of six siblings and is survived by her sister Elizabeth Ann Wolfram, three sisters-in-law, 17 Nieces and Nephews, 40 great Nieces and Nephews and her best friend, Rosemary O'Connor, with whom she shared a home and a deep commitment to rescuing animals. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her brothers Bob (Evie), John (Joanne), Bill (Paula), David and brother-in-law Cliff Wolfram.
She was loved and adored by everyone who ever met her. The world has lost a beautiful soul and she will be greatly missed.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held, on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 11:00 am, at the Church of the Nativity, 6400 Nativity Lane, Burke, VA 22015. Interment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Fairfax County, Catholic Charities, Church of the Nativity or a charity of your choosing.
