Obituary

Michael R. Swansby, age 80, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at United Presbyterian Church in Wisconsin Dells with Pastor Steven Keller officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 A.M until the time of service at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Luncheon to follow.

Mike was born October 26, 1943 in Portage, Wisconsin, the son of Michael and Irene (Slowey) Swansby. He is a 1962 graduate of Wisconsin Dells High School. He met Carol Tilton, his partner in crime, while working at Playman Standard Service in Wisconsin Dells. They married on April 6, 1968 just before Mike was deployed to Vietnam to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves. Mike returned home from Vietnam in 1969 and was blessed to meet their daughter, Lisa, who had been born while he was away. After Vietnam, Mike became a life-long and active member of the Wisconsin Dells Community. He spent his early years working at the Badger Ordinance Plant. After the plant closed, he held a job with Crawford Oil for the next 32 years delivering fuel to homes, farms, and businesses. He could often be heard boasting, "I fuel the Dells." He retired in 2006.

Mike was very active in the Wisconsin Dells community. He was a dedicated member of the Kilbourn Volunteer Fire and Rescue for most of his adult life. He had a lively sense of humor, was social and active around town, and knew just about everyone. He was also a committed member of the VFW Post 9387 and the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187.

Mike enjoyed family camping trips, hunting, fishing, golfing, chatting with friends over a cup of coffee or a beer, and firing up the grill for a tasty meal. He also had an insatiable sweet tooth.

Mike will be missed by his children, Lori Rehlinger and Todd (Renee) Swansby; sisters Pat (Bill) Schorer and Kathy (Bob) Monahan; brother John Swansby; and 4 grandchildren, Maxwell and Lucas Rehlinger, and Madelyn and Sophia Swansby. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Carol; daughter, Lisa; and son-in-law, Chris Rehinger.

The Picha Funeral Home and Crematory of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of plants or flowers, the family requests donations to the Kilbourn Volunteer Fire Department, VFW Post 9387, or the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187.
