Wisconsin Dells
Neil Somers Ellison, a man of wisdom, humor, and unwavering love, passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of kindness and cherished memories for all who knew him. Born on December 21, 1941 to Gwendolyn Arabella Somers and Elmer Ellison. Neil grew up in Tomah, Wisconsin, a town that shaped his values and became the setting for countless adventures with his lifelong best friends.
Neil pursued higher education at UW LaCrosse, where he earned his teaching degree. He was also a proud veteran and cherished his Norwegian heritage. Neil first married Sonya Lynn Ahrensmeyer. Together, they raised two beloved children, Tiffany Ellison of St. Petersburg, FL, and Tyler Ellison of Egg Harbor, WI. Neil's heart overflowed with pride for his six grandchildren: Abigail Schneider (Chicago, IL), Olivia Schneider (Boston, MA), Lucas Schneider (St. Petersburg, FL), Tobias Ellison (Denver, CO), Erik Ellison (Captiva, FL), and Kate Ellison (London, UK). He treasured the moments spent sharing stories, offering wisdom, and creating memories with each of them. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Hedrich (Ron) of Wisconsin Dells, WI, whose support and help was essential as he aged. Neil was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Flanagan (Boston, MA), whose memory he carried in his heart every day, and his wife, Helen Anne Wimmer (Wisconsin Dells, WI), who brought joy and companionship into his later years.
Neil will be remembered for his gentle spirit, quick wit, and the deep connections he formed with everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. His love for life, dedication to his family, friends and country will forever serve as an inspiration to those he leaves behind.
A private celebration of Neil's life will be held on January 2nd 2025.
Neil's light may have dimmed, but the warmth of his love and the strength of his spirit will shine on in all who knew him.
