Peter H.
Gregerson
Sep 14, 1941 — Dec 21, 2025
Wisconsin Dells
Peter Harold Gregerson, age 84, of Wisconsin Dells, WI, passed away on Sunday, December 21, at home with his family by his side. This was also the way Pete spent his life, surrounded by family and wonderful friends.
Pete was born Sept. 14, 1941, in Portage, Wisconsin, the son of Gordon Gregerson and Agatha McDonald. Pete was raised on his Grandparents' farm in the Town of Newport. Pete would often say he was "raised by a couple of angels," Ma and Pop, his grandparents.
Pete's hard work ethic started at an early age, as a farm always had a ton of chores to be done. This work ethic stayed with him his entire life, and was passed on to generations that followed. "Don't walk past the wood pile without bringing in an armful of wood."
Pete was educated on the family farm, and in one-room schoolhouses. He often noted his excellence as a student, proclaiming his "2nd in his class" status (with only 2 kids in his class). Pete graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School in 1960. Shortly after graduation, he took a job at National Cash Register in the Chicago area. During one of his many daily train rides into the city he met a beautiful lady, Barb Goerlitz. Pete's charm and persistence led to the greatest chapter of his life. Pete and Barb were married on December 1, 1962 in Cary, IL.
Life in the big city was not for Pete. Those farm fields and his family in Newport were dear to his soul. In 1964, Pete managed to convince Barb to move back to the Gregerson farm in Newport, with baby Eric in tow. Pete and Barb built the rest of their life in Newport and the Dells area, close to many of the other Gregersons, and had two more sons, Todd, and Ladd. "Raising kids is like gardening," Pete used to say, "Tend to them every day and things will grow good." For 63 years Pete and Barb tended their family "garden."
Pete worked at Libby McNeil and Libby in Baraboo, WI, for 20 years before starting his business, Gregerson Tree Service. He spent another 20 plus years working alongside his son, Eric. Pete and Barb enjoyed their retirement years spending winter seasons in Florida, and later in South Texas. Many close friendships were formed during those winter get-aways.
The Wisconsin Dells community was dear to Pete. He spent 35 years helping as a member of the local Jaycees and Lions Clubs.
Pete's life was a colorful one. Countless memories were made and many stories were told and re-told. He found love, and was loved. His heart was big; his hands were strong and calloused. He lived life. It was a good life. A man can ask for nothing more. He will be missed.
Pete is survived by his wife Barbara, sons, Eric (Jennifer), Todd, and Ladd (Angela); brothers Paul (Nancy), Leif, Thore, and Olaf (Denise); sister Kristen (Steve) Maier; grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike), Keshia, Jakob (Natalie), Leif (Teresa), Rose and Bjorn; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his grandparents, parents, and best friend Uncle Ed Gregerson.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Trappers Turn Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells with readings and prayer service by Rev. Steve Keller. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until time of service at 1:30 p.m. with luncheon to follow. The family is also planning a Celebration of Life picnic for Pete this summer on the family farm.
