Wisconsin Dells

Obituary

Richard Buckminster, age 83 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Friday, September 27, 2024 at Riverwood Senior Living in Wisconsin Dells.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Pastor Joseph Doegen officiating. Visitation will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m.

Richard (Dick) was born on April 4, 1941 to Herbert and Ethel Buckminster, and raised to appreciate the rich history of the Wisconsin Dells through working at the family's Dells Boat Tours concessions business in Witches Gulch, Stand Rock, and the Original Wisconsin Ducks. Dick met his high school sweetheart Mary (Hodge) playing the trombone in band, and the two married 65 years ago on September 19, 1959. The couple raised their four children (Monica, Marsha, Marian, and Mona) in the same Coldwater Canyon home in which Dick was raised and operated the concessions business for 38 years, allowing their children, grandchildren (Jason, Nicole, and Sean), and great grandchildren (Jaxon and Autumn) to cultivate a fond appreciation for Wisconsin Dells history. Dick channeled this passion into collecting a robust assortment of Wisconsin Dells/Kilbourn memorabilia and enjoyed sharing facts and stories about these various items with others. Above all, Dick loved spending time with family and friends doing a variety of activities, such as golfing, wintering in Florida, hunting on his farmland, watching country westerns, or having coffee at the "smart table" each morning. Dick will forever be remembered for his quick wit, honorable character, tremendous work ethic, and selfless devotion to his family.

Richard is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Monica Rector (John), Marsha Buckminster (Eddie Sedar), and Marian Kendall (Troy McCann); grandchildren, Jason Rector (Summer), Nicole Larkin (Michael Cayo), and Sean Kendall (Marin); great grandchildren, Jaxon and Autumn Rector. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Mona.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church. The family would like to send a special thanks to the caregivers at Riverwood.
