Richard Otto "Dick" Voights, age 81, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026.

Born June 8, 1945, in a rural farmhouse outside of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Dick was the eldest child of Louis Henry Voights and Nina Mae Rhinehart. The Voights family moved to Lake Delton when Dick was a young boy, and it remained his home for the rest of his life. He spent his youth swimming in Mirror Lake with his siblings, Donna and Dean, and was never one to shy away from adventure—including jumping off a cliff or two.

Like many young men of his generation, Dick entered the workforce early rather than finishing high school. Over the years, he worked wherever there was a job to be done, including farm labor, horse stables, local gas stations, The Dells Oasis Truck Stop, Culver's, and eventually Kalahari, where he retired. He went back to school as an adult and received his GED. No matter where he worked, Dick was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand.

It was at the truck stop that he met the love of his life, his favorite waitress, Sarah Ernst. Thirty days after they met, they were married. They exchanged vows at the Lake Delton Methodist Church, a building that still stands today and holds the distinction of being the oldest original building in the Village of Lake Delton.

Dick loved fast cars and motorcycles until Sarah came along. Weddings and babies cost money, so he sold his cherished 1965 GTO—a story he never tired of telling. Together, Dick and Sarah raised three children: Rebecca Lynn, Richard Louis, and Julianne Raine Voights. He would often joke that selling that GTO was the best investment he ever made.

Years later, Dick and Sarah leased the business where they first met and operated the Dells Oasis/Pioneer Restaurant for many years. When they started, Dick didn't know much about cooking, but he learned quickly and soon discovered a true passion. Feeding people became one of his greatest joys. He was known for his soups, biscuits and gravy, pioneer hash, and countless desserts. No one ever left his table hungry, and if you weren't family or a friend when you arrived, chances were, you were by the time you left.

In addition to cooking, Dick enjoyed hunting and was an avid collector of guns and knives. Road trips, motorcycles, and spending time outdoors brought him happiness. Most of all, he treasured time with family and friends, always ready with a story, a helping hand, or a warm meal.

In his later years he found his true purpose and was the best caregiver for his dear wife Sarah when she became ill. Together they found Jesus and a new community at Walnut Hill Church. He remained active in his church and was often described as having a servant's heart.

Dick is survived by his children, Rebecca, Richard (Gena) and Julianne Voights; grandchildren, Ethan (Kylie) Voights, Stephen (Brook) Voights, Austin Duren, Joseph and Aiden Foss and finally a granddaughter named for his mother, Nina Osborne;  a brother Dean (Cindy) Voights and nephews, Jason Voights and Josh (Stacy) Voights. Proceeded in death by his soulmate Sarah, his parents Louis and Nina Voights, sister Donna Voights and niece Shannon Voights.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Walnut Hill Bible Church in Baraboo, WI, with Pastor Dan Gunderson officiating. Visitations will be held on Tuesday at Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, WI from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with Words of Remembrance at 6:30 P.M. and again on Wednesday at Walnut Hill Bible Church from 10:00 until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.
