Robert Lyman Caliban ("Bob"), 87, of Lake Delton, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at his home.

Bob was born on November 16, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Joseph Lyman Jr. and Mildred (Hodge) Caliban. Bob was born and lived on Chicago's Southeast side until he retired to his beautiful woods in Lake Delton, Wisconsin. He always loved the outdoors. In his youth, he explored the remaining wild spaces in Chicago's East Side neighborhood. During his twenties, he was a member of the "Night Crawlers" car club where he won many races with his 1955 Chevy. Robert proudly served his country in the Illinois Army National Guard. He would often tell stories to his family about his basic training at Fort Bliss in Texas and the trips to Mexico that ensued. Bob also told of his National Guard time at Wolf Lake's Nike site.

Bob's lifetime enjoyment of fishing came from his father which he passed down to his own family.  Bob married the love of his life, Mary Hall, on November 23, 1963. He took his family on camping adventures to see the country. In the spring, Bob would make delicious maple syrup, tapping trees and cooking it down over an open fire. He even tapped the tree in front of his Hegewisch home. He also made sure always to have a vegetable garden. Bob loved spending time with his family. A favorite tradition of Bob's was taking family trips to downtown Chicago during the Christmas season to see the windows at Marshall Fields and visit the German Christkindl Market. Bob was a lover of all music types which often led to sing-alongs around the campfire, and his home being filled with the sounds of his favorite songs on the guitar. He retired as a building engineer from the Chicago Public Schools.

He was a beloved husband to his wife, his children's treasured dad, and a much-loved papa to his grandchildren. Robert was known as a happy-go-lucky guy who always had a goofy joke, silly saying, or words of wisdom. We will cherish his stories forever.

Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary, his son, Joseph (Mary) Caliban, daughters; Kerri Counts and Angela (Edward) Hough. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Robert, Jessye, Tina, Gianna, Alexandria, Adam, and Alyssa, his sisters; LaVerne Walsh and Phyllis Hicks, and many nieces and nephews. Bob's niece-in-law, Mickie Lorine, who played a part in the story of his meeting Mary, also survives.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Seth and Gladys Hall, son-in-law, Larry Counts, brothers-in-law; Cliff Walsh and Arthur Hicks, and sister-in-law, Edith McNair.
