Timme Henry
Tofson
Oct 27, 1951 — Feb 24, 2026
Wisconsin Dells
He entered every room with a smile.
And as we remember and celebrate the life of Tim Henry Tofson, we can't help but smile back.
With signature optimism, Tim had experienced some failing health issues over the last several years. So his passing from sudden complications on February 24, 2026 at the age of 74 felt quick and unexpected. Thankfully, family was there to lovingly surround him and we are sure he entered heaven's door smiling.
He leaves behind a footprint of dedication, wisdom, humor and faith. Tim was born on October 27, 1951, the second of four children, to Merton and Ruth Tofson of Wisconsin Dells, WI. A lifelong resident of the Dells, Tim loved growing up in this unique small town. He excelled in academics and athletics, proudly playing as a member of the small but mighty WDHS basketball team that surprisingly made it to the State Tournament Final Four ("State in '68"), before there were any divisions made by school size. He worked summers in this beautiful tourist destination as a tour guide on the iconic Wisconsin Ducks, sharing with visitors the natural wonders of his hometown along the Wisconsin River.
Like his father before him, Tim attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated from the business school in 1974 with a degree in risk management and finance. Tim remained a passionate Badger fan the remainder of his life.
Tim was as 'Wisconsin' as they get! He loved a good meal with good conversation; his humor and easy laugh followed him everywhere; he had a sincere genuineness about him that was so 'salt of the earth'; and his unwavering Christian faith put everything in perspective. Tim's deep dedication to his family and his community was part of his heart and soul.
After college, he returned to Wisconsin Dells to join the family business, Tofson Insurance Agency. His grandfather Henry Tofson started the business in 1911 with his father Mert Tofson later joining and taking over. Tim came on as a third-generation owner, working alongside his brothers Toby and Tom for many years.
As God would have it, Debbie Schultz who had also grown up in the Dells, had ironically also come back after college to work in her own family's business. Tim and Deb began dating and in 1982 they were married, enjoying years of deep devotion. They raised their treasured son Dain in the community they loved and were deeply involved in all his sports, academics and activities. They enjoyed many years of travel together through work opportunities, as well as 40 years of annual trips to Fort Myers Beach with dear local friends.
Eventually Tim's brothers retired from the family business, but Tim continued. His love for and unique knowledge of the intricacies of the insurance needs in the hospitality industry proved to be a real asset. He loved what he did and with whom he did it. His co-workers were truly a second family to him, sharing so much life together over the years. And clients were truly friends. In 2018, Tim merged the business with TRICOR Insurance. He was still working there at the time of his death. Tim worked for over 50 years in this family business that uniquely spanned only three generations in its 115 years.
Tim's commitment to legacy continued as he also followed his father and grandfather as the third-generation member of the Bank of Wisconsin Dells Board of Directors. He lovingly dedicated 30 years to this valued local entity, using his calm wisdom and business acumen for the benefit of the greater community.
Once more, Tim was a third generation following his father and grandfather as a member of the Kilbourn Volunteer Fire Department in Wisconsin Dells. He proudly served among this selfless brotherhood for 15 years, including five years as secretary/treasurer. Additionally, Tim was a long time, active member of Bethany Lutheran Church; the Spring Grove Cemetery Commission; the Dells Housing Board; the H. H. Bennett State Historical Society Committee; the Independent Insurance Agents of America; the Independent Insurance Agents of Wisconsin; and the Wisconsin Agents Advisory Council.
The family wants to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Clare and St. Mary's Hospitals, in particular the St. Clare Emergency Room Nurse Barbara and Dr. Hansen, and Tim's cardiac rehab therapist Darcy.
Family was Tim's greatest joy. Many who will miss his mischievous smile, his wise counsel and his loving presence in their lives survive him: Wife, Debbie Tofson; Son, Dain Tofson; Daughter-in-Law, Laura Tofson; Grandchildren, Reid and Ashtyn Tofson; Sister, Tami Tofson Pringle (Joe); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and friends.
A funeral celebrating Tim's life will be held on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 2026 at BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH (620 Broadway, Wisconsin Dells, WI), the same lifelong church where he was baptized, confirmed and married. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Tim H. Tofson's name to: Bethany Lutheran Church (620 Broadway, Wisc. Dells, WI 53965) or the Kilbourn Fire Department (P.O. Box 689, Wisc. Dells, WI 53965)
