Walter "Wally" Zepplin, age 80, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 28, 2024.
Wally was born in Marshfield, WI to the late John "Jack" and Dorothy (Stroetz) Zepplin on June 13, 1943. As a young boy, Wally farmed with his family in Stratford WI, graduating from Stratford High School in June of 1961, he enlisted in the US Army, spending the majority of his service in Baumhaulder, Germany. Wally completed his Army service in 1964 and returned home to begin his career as a welder for Caterpillar tractor company, in Peoria IL. He married the love of his life, Darlene Zirbel, on May 22, 1965. After retiring from Caterpillar in 1990, he worked carpentry and construction until 2011, when he discovered his real passion; serving at the Wisconsin Dells Food Pantry, where he served until recently. Wally was a faithful member of Dells Delton Methodist church and the American Legion.
Wally is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Darlene; brothers, Jerry (Sherry), Ken (Marge), and Ron (Nona); children, Scott (Pam) Zepplin, Tracey (John Saladino) Sly, Tammy (Rick) Schwab and Steven (Wendi) Zepplin; grandchildren, Kristen (Alex), Kelsey (Ethan), Hannah (Amanda), Justin, Ashley (Kody), Avery (Kaitlynn), Jordan, Jade, Veronica, Elijah, Natalie, Ella, and Matthias; and great-grandchildren, Ellis, Emberly, Aleena, Ford, Lanier, Winter, Karter, Piper, Winston, Gabriel and Isabelle.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Dells-Delton Methodist Church with Pastor Lee Bushweiler officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the start of the service. Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield, WI with Military Honors.
To honor Wally's passion, the family will be hosting his final food drive. In lieu of flowers non-perishable food items will be collected at the service. Monetary donations can be made at:
