Obituary

William Dean "Hutch" Hutchins, age 91, of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Pastor Joseph Doegen officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00. Burial will follow at Newport Lutheran Cemetery.

Born on April 15, 1934, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Hutch lived a long and full life marked by humor, kindness, and a deep appreciation for both people and sports.

During high school in Gays Mills, Hutch was a proud member of the Original Kickapoo Kids baseball team, whose accomplishments were highlighted in the book The Amazing Journey of the Kickapoo Kids. He was a lifelong sports enthusiast who loved attending football, baseball, and basketball games at all levels. He spent time coaching and refereeing in his younger years. After graduating from the La Crosse State College with degrees in Physical Education and History, Hutch served his country in the U.S. Army. He then found himself working as a History Teacher in Wisconsin Dells, where he met and became friends with Chuck and Dianne Thompson. He went on to manage the Red Wagon Restaurants for the Thompson family for many years.

Hutch enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending Packers, Brewers, and Badger games, playing Euchre, and sharing stories from his many adventures—stories that were as entertaining as they were heartfelt. In his senior year of college, he wrote a paper that included the following words: "I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I had hoped for. Despite myself, prayers were answered. I am among all men, richly blessed. It started with one... it is up to me to see that it spreads." Those words perfectly capture the spirit with which he lived his life.

Hutch is survived by many friends and relatives who will forever cherish his memory.

In lieu of flowers, Hutch asked to be honored by donations in his name to Bethany Lutheran Church, Kilbourn Public Library, or The Bowman House.
